When the History Channel Great Race came to Placerville, an official pit stop for the race, thousands of people came to Main Street to welcome the drivers. At an awards banquet in Sacramento, the Great Race drivers, navigators and staff voted Placerville their number one choice as the city that was hospitable, enthusiastic and well decorated. For this, Placerville won $5,000 for its main library.
